FTC announces proposed restrictions and allegations
Federal Trade Commission
Agency alleges Sheffield–OPEC output coordination and proposes board restriction.
Does not prove: Allegations, not adjudicated crime.
A traceable agency-to-media story plus a true AP syndication chain, followed by a material 2025 administrative reversal.
The 2024 FTC material was an allegation and proposed restriction, which AP reported and Fortune republished with AP credit. The January 2025 final administrative order was subsequently set aside July 17. Later reporting should not omit that status change.
An agency administrative reversal is not a judicial declaration that every alleged exchange was lawful; it does not establish personal guilt or innocence in unrelated matters. An original AP publication time and syndication are same-day; no minute-by-minute exclusivity claimed.
