Selected metropolitan price comparisons
Contrast selected metro inflation observations while keeping place names, metro boundaries and sample-selection limits visible.
Bars start at zero, and only actual listed observation dates are shown. This is not a continuous time series.
Evidence, limits, and reproducibility
Metric: CPI-U all-items unadjusted 12-month change, selected metropolitan areas
Coverage: Twelve months ended August 2026
Geography: Explicit multi-county metro statistical areas (NOT state totals)
Observational structure: Selected local areas, with varying BLS pricing schedules
Limit: These five metro areas are selected examples, not a representative sample of all cities or states. Chicago, LA and NY monthly; Houston and Miami on a separate two-month schedule. Do not infer statewide values.
Data vintage: frozen October 11, 2026, not a live data feed. The public release includes exactly these observations, not every monthly record.
