One date, different consumer-price categories
The same economic period produced different inflation experiences for gasoline, food, energy and other goods and services.
Bars start at zero, and only actual listed observation dates are shown. This is not a continuous time series.
Evidence, limits, and reproducibility
Metric: Unadjusted 12-month percent changes in CPI-U expenditure categories
Coverage: Twelve months ended August 2026
Geography: United States: U.S. city average
Observational structure: Same-window different baskets
Limit: Category rates cannot be added to derive headline CPI: baskets overlap and have different expenditure weights. Gasoline is nested within energy; core excludes food and energy.
Data vintage: frozen October 11, 2026, not a live data feed. The public release includes exactly these observations, not every monthly record.
