The question and the evidence burden

Question: How much do physical disruptions explain the 2026 energy-price rise, and what does the source record say about related U.S. decisions?

What would establish it: Contemporaneous military notices, official physical oil-flow estimates, published inflation effect estimates, dated EIA market prices and Kennedy’s fuller statements.

Method: fact check

What the documents establish

EIA reported Brent averaging $114 in September 2026 after attacks and a pipeline disruption. CBO estimates elevated energy prices attributable to war raised Q2 2026 annualized headline PCE inflation by 2.3 percentage points. Kennedy’s September 29 office release acknowledged inflation effects of the U.S.–Israeli Iran operation.

Limits and competing context

The blockage and military decisions involve multiple actors; the U.S. blockade was confined to Iranian-port movements under its announced terms. CBO PCE quarterly annualization must not be presented as a contribution to August twelve-month CPI, and prewar Hormuz flows are not realized war flows.

Still unanswered

Updated observed tanker/pipeline flows, actual fuel deliveries and insurance expenses, and independent confirmation of long-run causal incidence by decision and price component.

No categorical political verdict or speaker-wide score has been assigned. See the evidence-classification rubric.
